How I Terrorized 100 Women Into Buying My Stuff

It's Savvy Storytime!

When I first started Savvy, I had NO IDEA how to do ANYTHING related to marketing this business. I knew I could figure it out, but in the meantime, all I had were a bunch of marketing books, Google, and the brand new platform of Facebook.

And those resources told me that two things triggered sales: Sex and Fear.

Of course, I wasn't going to use sex to sell whipped shea butters to my salon clients and friends (those were my customers in those early days!), so I chose FEAR.

Now, in general, I wasn't a fearful person, and I didn't get triggered by fearmongering, especially when it came to things like ingredients in food and cosmetics.

Because when I say, there is NO END to the list of things that are killing us, I mean, seriously. No end. Even the organic ingredients are toxic. And did you know you allegedly have to CHEW your fresh juices to get the full benefit? For real, STAAAAP. But I digress...

I simply saw the expansive benefits of using real, raw ingredients, and knew others would love it, too.

But because I was running in a relatively new market- using real, raw ingredients in my skincare formulations, I had to educate almost everyone on how the products worked, as well as explain the textural differences of real ingredients Vs. synthetics. (Y'all remember those gritty shea butter days?! Thanks for sticking around! 😜)

Because YOU know now how different real ingredients can feel and look in cosmetics, but back in those day, NOBODY was using real oil on the body. It was silicones and petrolatum for days!

And since I was educating everyone I met regarding real, raw ingredients, I was being invited to speak to groups of people often.

One day, I was invited to speak to a group of MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers). They had two groups, about 70-ish women per group, all young mothers, and I had an audience with both of them. (Some of those women are still around, maybe reading this now, and remembering!)

So, I chose my topic title: "Check Your Labels".

I went into great depth as to not only HOW to read a cosmetic label, but HOW those synthetic ingredients impacted the body.

I was excited to walk into the room full of potential Savvy customers, take the microphone, and walk them through my full Power Point presentation on how to interpret food and cosmetic labels.

But instead, the presentation somehow morphed into a dire warning that their synthetic ingredients were ticking time bombs in their bodies and in their babies' bodies, too. I knew I went too far when I heard the audible gasp at my statement, "phthalates cross the placenta barrier, emasculating male babies." (It's true, though...look it up. Or maybe don't...)

When the presentation was over, the whole room of ladies RAN to my table to purchase every product I had.

I sold out that day.

In BOTH ways.

And I never once had to mention my products.

When we left, my niece who was helping me said, "You terrified them." And I knew she was right. The head of the organization asked me to tone it down for the next meeting. And I totally agreed:

That was no way to help people. And that's why I created Savvy in the first place: to solve a problem. To enhance beauty. To honor people's lives.

It was in those days that I quickly pivoted to be true to myself, my customers, and to the brand:

There is no fear in love. But PERFECT LOVE casts out ALL FEAR.

Through the years, I've been able to keep such a loyal following of customers because I know I don't have to show them all the things we are NOT.

And I don't have to threaten them with the fear of what could happen if they didn't "join us"...I mean, we aren't in a gang, right? 🤣

Instead, I focus on who Savvy Bohème IS, and the BEAUTY she shares with any person she touches. Literally.

I've learned that IDENTITY is a much more powerful motivator for action, and it comes from knowing WHO you are, and WHAT you're made from... It comes from "sameness".

It's that "sameness" that I've sought to connect with YOU throughout the years.

And so, you and I don't need to create a whole list of things we are against.(Although, if we did, I'd start and end with aluminum.😉)

Instead, I am creating a lifestyle filled with things I LOVE. And among those in that list is YOU.

Thank you for being here, for your recent or longtime support, and for your thoughts and cheers for Savvy! You're my greatest motivator to keep going.

To that, I say,

Perfect LOVE and Identity to you!

Love,

Keri 💋

(Quick couple of notes: just because you can't pronounce an ingredient doesn't make it bad for you. The scientific names of ingredients are often listed on a product label, like Butyrospermum Parkii (shea butter).

Also: everything is a chemical. Even air & water. So don't let any company tell you their products are "chemical free', or that they are better because you can pronounce all their ingredients. The proof is in the pudding, as they say.)

PS: Don't forget to grab you full sized Facial Trivium Set- It's priced crazy-low, and those huge sizes will be gone with my supply is gone.
